Cover Gas for Magnesium alloy die-casting

We have applied fluorine technology to provide a non-flammable cover gas "ZEM-SCREEN" for magnesium alloy casting that is environmentally friendly.

We have already started to sell the ZEM-SCREEN in Japan, and plan to sell it to the magnesium alloy user in China, South Korea, the United States, and Canada, etc.

Features of the Cover Gas

Magnesium alloy is a suitable component material for cell phone, notebook computer, automobile and other products to reduce their weights. As it is lighter than iron or aluminum, magnesium alloy market is expected to grow continuously.
In the mainstream magnesium manufacturing process known as die-casting method, cover gas is sprayed onto surface of molten magnesium in a melting furnace at a constant rate so as to prevent high temperature combustion by exposure to air.
Today, SF6 is predominantly used as a cover gas in magnesium alloy melting. However, because of its large GWP100 (Global Warming Potential 100year) of 23900, development of alternative cover gas with much lower GWP to replace SF6 has been required.
Under these circumstances, we have newly developed alternative cover gas with GWP100 of only 9 which also contributes to the reduction of CO2 emission.

  • Ultra-low GWP
  • Performance equivalent to SF6
